On August 5, 2025, the Jishui ceremony for China’s first carrier rocket recovery ship “Interstellar Return” was grandly held at 14:08 in the afternoon at the Runyang Shipyard in Yangzhou, China, People’s Republic of China!

The launch ceremony of Interstellar Glory’s “Interstellar Homing” carrier rocket recovery vessel took place today at the Runyang Shipyard in Yangzhou. As the perfect partner for Interstellar Glory’s medium-to-large liquid oxygen and methane reusable carrier rocket, the Hyperbola-3 (codenamed SQX-3), the “Interstellar Homing” boasts a sturdy design: approximately 100 meters long and 42 meters wide, with a recovery deck measuring 40 meters by 60 meters, sufficient to securely support the triumphant first-stage rocket. With a displacement of 17,000 tons and a DP2-class dynamic positioning system, it can accurately capture in sea state 4 and navigate steadily in sea state 5. It offers flexible recovery locations and a high level of safety. An intelligent unmanned mode makes recovery operations safer and more convenient, while dedicated storage compartments easily accommodate the transfer of rocket components at sea.

The carrier rocket recovery ship will then undergo key assessment and acceptance work, including outfitting, joint commissioning and testing of mechanical and electrical equipment, ship performance testing, and sea trials. It is scheduled to arrive in Hainan in September to conduct large-scale comprehensive tests, including joint maritime exercises. A grand ceremony was held…

Yangzhou was bathed in a gentle breeze and shimmering sunshine. The grand ceremony for the launch of China’s first carrier rocket recovery ship, the “Interstellar Return,” was held at 2:08 PM at the Yangzhou Runyang Shipyard. Officials from Wenchang City, Shuangliu District of Chengdu, Yangzhou City, and Foshan City, along with representatives from partner companies such as Hainan International Commercial Space Launch Co., Ltd. , Shanghai Chunhe Marine Technology Group Co., Ltd., Zhejiang Taihe Shipping Co., Ltd., and Jiangsu Runyang Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., as well as representatives from investors who have long supported the development of Interstellar Glory, were invited to attend. Zhang Hao, Deputy General Manager of Zhejiang Taihe Shipping Co., Ltd., presided over the ceremony.

The Star Return is my country’s first and the world’s fifth sea-based carrier rocket recovery vessel, marking my country’s second nation, after the United States, in possessing a carrier rocket recovery vessel. The successful launch of the Star Return marks a significant milestone in my country’s development of reusable carrier rocket sea-based recovery technology. The vessel will also be capable of accommodating the future sea-based recovery of various medium and large reusable rockets, serving as a key pillar of support.

As the perfect partner for Interstellar Glory’s medium-to-large liquid oxygen and methane reusable carrier rocket , the Hyperbola-3 (codenamed SQX-3), the Starship Hopping hull boasts a massive design: approximately 100 meters long and 42 meters wide, with a recovery deck measuring 40 by 60 meters, more than enough to securely support the triumphant first stage. With a displacement of 17,000 tons and a DP2-class dynamic positioning system, it can accurately capture targets in sea state 4 and navigate reliably in sea state 5. It offers flexible recovery locations and a high level of safety. At the Jishui ceremony, speeches were delivered with earnest intentions. Huang Xuewei, Chairman of Jiangsu Runyang Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., Zhang Fumin, Chief Engineer, and Lu Yunjun, Chairman of Shanghai Chunhe Marine Technology Group Co., Ltd., all expressed their congratulations and expectations. Peng Xiaobo, Chairman of Interstellar Glory Aerospace Technology Group, gave an emotional speech: “As China’s first carrier rocket recovery ship, the ‘Interstellar Return’ has explored and established new standards for the integration of China’s aerospace and shipbuilding industries, and has served as a typical demonstration and leading role in the construction of subsequent carrier rocket recovery ships in China. It fills the gap in domestic offshore engineering ship types. Starting today, China’s offshore engineering ships have added the carrier rocket recovery ship type; the ‘Interstellar Return’ is the concrete embodiment of our pursuit of dreams in the stars and the sea, giving us confidence and strength.”

The “Interstellar Return” is one of three major projects invested by Interstellar Glory in Wenchang, Hainan. Designed to meet the strategic deployment for the maiden flight of Interstellar Glory’s SQX-3 carrier rocket, it will achieve a closed-loop process for the recovery, inspection, maintenance , and reuse of the carrier rocket . This will achieve breakthroughs in the low-cost, rapid-response space transportation capabilities of reusable carrier rockets, promoting a leapfrog development in cost reduction and efficiency improvement for the commercial space industry. The carrier rocket recovery ship will then proceed to Jishui for key assessment and acceptance work, including outfitting, joint commissioning and testing of mechanical and electrical equipment, performance testing, and sea trials. It is scheduled to arrive in Hainan in September to conduct large-scale, comprehensive tests, including joint maritime exercises.

The Carrier Rocket  is on the string, the ship has launched. “Interstellar Return” will be ready, awaiting the safe return of the Hyperbola-3 carrier rocket’s first stage from its maiden flight, completing its glorious debut. We firmly believe that in the near future, it will become a warm haven for China’s reusable carrier rockets the return of the reusable first stage of the carrier rocket day after day .
