Looking out the April night sky in Auckland and having going through the changes of out of Daylight savings, means the night sky only gets very early dark…  In this I notice that the skies are getting colder, in that the starry light is a little sharper, than to the summery nights.  Noticing from the westward view the Orion constellation is settling down early now. Looking back only a couple of weeks ago the Planets Mars and even more later Saturn rising in the East.. Having Mars only blushing Reddish more… in as it rise from the horizon..  Saturn is still an amazing sight to been seen, with its slight angled rings…

As for the moon its duration phases are quite revealing in showing the depths of the craters by the casted shadows, in itself slowly revealing its grey-ish white Luna surface… showing its city large craters.. one nice thing is when you look at edge of the moon you could see the distinctive features of height of the Luna circumference crater heights…

Early this month of March 2014, we’ve been reward over here in Auckland with the accents of moderately clear nightly weather…. In that we get to see the very first to up to now the second quarters. With that duration from crescent to half Moon, we get to see the shadowy indentation depths and heights of the Luna craters… and the terminator line between the lighted and shadow parts of the moon…  And you could see the earlier and later parts of the moon’s terrain… Textures wise like comparing having a silk satin lining with a heavy lace shell on a dress….

Most of the location closer shots of the moon around the terminator line are in the regions of Mare of Crisium, Fecuditaits also Tranquilitatis (the sea of Tranquility) where Apollo eleven landed… and as you move closer down you’ll see the location of Mare Serenitatis…. Where it’s heavily cratered around to region where crater Tycho…

So during the early parts of month of March evening the moon Luna is smiling winking you back…

Luna spotted in Apirl’s Auckland…….?

For the month of April in Auckland’s night sky, it has been on interesting one, where seeing more of Saturn rising early in the East, timey averaging of from 1800 hours from about and angle of sixty four degrees  from the eastern horizon, between the constellations of Virgo and Libra.    It’s still also visible to view the last moments of Jupiter has it sets down in Westfully very early in the timings of between 1940 to 2030 hours in the evening.    Also what settling down is the Orion, with Canis Major plus Minor giving away to the rise in the moderately late evening of the Scorpio and Sagittarius, showing you the way into the centre iris of our galaxy the Milky Way.

In during the month of April, you’ll get to see the Moon, Luna lacy cratered textured dress surface. Progressively through the month, as the shadowed, lighted  terminator  graduately  revealing  the intricate layers of her various  fabrics surface,   has the days and weeks progress, lighting up the cratered layers shadowing the lighted grey white linings of the early Luna’s terrain.  When she runway across the night sky it best to view when she’s in first or second quarter lighted, in which you could see Luna’s  craters in depth as the  shadow it cast on the surface showing its height.  If she was fully lighted in full moon, you’ll see the beautifully intricate cratered lacy woven surface, but not the ever so woven depths though.

Weather wise, it got slightly colder, transitioning to from the early autumn spring, to more climatic autumn where wearing beanies and layered clothing, Jackets and full length wool socks is a must prescription, with fashionably classic durable sense boots in mind to keep your foot and legs warm.  Most of the weather was behaving properly; clear nights, with crispy sharp star diamond paved skies.   As for strong stern drinks when doing out doors observing the night sky, you poison will be a either combination of variants of Hot chocolate, and coffee drinks to keep you internal engine warm to explore the wonders….. of what uniquely is above..

LUNA PHOTO’S | of the month- September 2012

starry veiw of the night sky looking towards west, Auckland

During this month the moon, was the predominate feature in the night sky, mostly the other stellar objects seen in Auckland westwards are fallen below  to the horizon, most of the wintery items are slowly making is way for the summery season of the night sky theatre.  The wintery actors in question whom grace us fallen early in the evening viewing of Auckland night sky,  still to be seen are in the range of directions of looking at between south to north west,  there are two distinctive globular clusters, 47 Tuc, also another cluster in the Centauras Constellation  which is has a cluster of least two million stars, and the previous cluster least one million,  both have roughly average distances of sixteen thousand light years, looking back in time, now that’s sixteen thousand times least ten trillion Km to travel ( that one light year of travelling within one year is a equitant  of least ten trillion Kilometres in distance).

Other actors in the night sky is the Jewel box, aka Kappa Crucis which is above the constellation Crux,  also the from it the pointers stars that lead to the Southern cross.  In which is one of the way point objects tools to find south using various methods in finding your compass directions,so you won’t get lost even though you’re in urban surroundings. Helping you to find south first, second north, then swing it to west to east in ninety degrees from north.

Other fallen actors of the night sky is the constellation Scorpio also right next to the tail is the half man half horse Archer Sagittarius is viewing even lower when viewed at 2000 hours at night. Has he bow the tip of the arrow to Scorpio’s heart a Red giant  Antares 603 light years away,  in between the direction of the readiness of the bow, is the centre direction of looking into the centre of the Milky way Galaxy.
