On May 19, 2020, the ISpace  Interplanetary Glory Focus One (referring to as “JD-1”) reusable liquid oxygen methane engine successfully completed the 200-second long-range test run of the entire system under rated conditions, and the cumulative long-term test under rated conditions exceeded 1,000. Second. In the follow-up, JD-1 will continue to carry out ground tests such as variable thrust test, swing test, second start test, engine vibration mode test, various engine boundary tests, engine life and reliability test and other ground tests.

This is the third long-range test run successfully completed by this engine. Among them, the second completed the 500-second long-range test, which is the first liquid oxygen methane engine in China to break through the 500-second single-machine test run.

Compared with the previous test run, this test run has been partially optimized and improved, including:

  1. A joint test of the engine, liquid oxygen, and methane self-generated supercharging system was carried out to verify the coordination of the system, and the test results met the tank boosting requirements;
  2. The test verification of the new dynamic seal was carried out. The JD-1 engine adopts a split-floating floating ring seal, and the gas consumption is only 20% of the whole ring type, which greatly reduces the amount of gas cylinders and improves the carrying capacity. Its self-compensation ability is also a reliable guarantee for repeated use.
  3. The starting technology is further optimized. Using gas cylinder to start, get rid of the dependence on special products such as pyrotechnic products, and start without carbon deposits is conducive to repeated use of the engine for many times. Tests show that the start-up technology has high controllability and strong control, which further improves the reliability of JD-1 products….

The status of the test drive test covers the rocket flight status and the rocket recovery mission status. Through this test run, the performance and function of the JD-1 engine system and main component products have been more comprehensively verified; the rocket’s self-generated supercharging solution has passed the assessment, and the power system compatibility has been verified; it has passed the reusable liquid oxygen methane engine before shooting, The whole process after the trial laid the foundation for the follow-on task of the recovery of the first stage of the hyperbolic No. 2 launch vehicle….

JD-1 is a 15-ton liquid oxygen methane rocket engine independently developed by Interstellar. The engine adopts a multi-purpose design idea, derived from a basic thrust type to form a variable thrust and vacuum type three-type engine. The components can be shared, which is conducive to reducing the development cycle and funding. Prior to this, the interplanetary glory JD-1 engine has completed multiple rated operating conditions such as thrust room ignition test, 200-second full system long-range test, test bench test, and 500-second full system long-range test. The completion of this test run indicates that the main technical status of the JD-1 engine is correct and reliable, and the subsequent mass production conditions are met. In 2020, Interplanetary Glory plans to conduct a hot test evaluation of multiple JD-1 engines for a total of about 10,000 seconds to accumulate reliability data; and pass the 100-kilometre vertical take-off and landing test of the reusable launch vehicle hyperbola No. 2 subclass one, breaking And fully master the reusable launch vehicle technology, so that China’s launch vehicle technology has entered a new era.
