[The Pallas-1 launch vehicle successfully completed a series of fairing tests]

On the 25th July 2024 The latest news from Galaxy Power; Recently, the company completed a series of static, modal, and separation tests on the Pallas-1 launch vehicle fairing, all of which were successful. The Pallas-1 series of launch vehicles are compatible with fairings with diameters of 3.35m, 4.2m, and 5.2m to meet the needs of different satellite customers. The fairing used in this test is one of the series of fairing products independently developed and designed by Galaxy Power, and is consistent with the status of the Pallas-1 Yao-1 flight test product.

The Pallas- 1 has a maximum low-orbit carrying capacity of 8 tons, with seven 50-ton liquid oxygen-kerosene engines in parallel in the first stage. It is scheduled to make its maiden flight at the end of this year….

Recently , Galaxy Aerospace completed a series of static, modal and separation tests on the fairing of the Pallas-1 launch vehicle, and all the tests were a complete success!

The Pallas-1 series of launch vehicles are compatible with fairings with diameters of 3.35m, 4.2m, and 5.2m to meet the needs of different satellite customers. The fairing used in this test is one of the series of fairing products independently developed and designed by Galaxy Power, and is consistent with the Pallas-1 Yao-1 flight test product. The fairing adopts a von Karman shape, which has the advantages of low flight aerodynamic resistance, light structural mass and easy operation.

The fairing end cap is made of high-strength ablation-resistant composite material, a large area of honeycomb sandwich composite material structure, and a metal frame structure at the rear. The fairing separation system adopts a “hinge-spring” half-cover rotation separation scheme, and the lateral and longitudinal separation unlocking devices both use point-type explosive bolts, which have small impact during the separation process and high separation reliability.

The static test of the fairing assessed the fairing’s ability to resist external loads and verified the structural strength. The test achieved the intended purpose and obtained relevant data. The modal test obtained the fairing’s modal parameters, providing a basis for structural dynamics model modification and fairing separation calculation.

The fairing separation test fully verified the correctness of the fairing separation system design, obtained the collision boundary data between the fairing separation body and the payload, assessed the adaptability of the structural system to the separation concentrated force load and the impact load of pyrotechnics, and obtained important mechanical environment parameters.

The complete success of the fairing series tests indicates that Galaxy Aerospace has the ability to quickly design, analyze and test large liquid rocket fairings, laying a solid foundation for the company’s subsequent model development.

The scale-down verification platform named “Firebird-1” is a scale-down verification platform (aeroengine power) for the vertical recovery control technology of智神星一号 PALLAS ONE Reusable Carrier Rocket. It is mainly used to verify the navigation, guidance, and control technologies and algorithms related to the final stage of vertical recovery of the rocket, and provide technical exploration and support for the development of corresponding products in the future.

The “Firebird” recycling technology verification platform planned by the company includes the “Firebird No. 1” scale-down verification platform based on aerodynamic power and the “Firebird No. 6” full-scale verification platform based on a self-developed liquid oxygen kerosene rocket engine. The control, stand-alone, structure, engine and other technologies for the recovery and use of “智神星一号 PALLAS ONE Reusable Carrier Rocket ” will be carried out in stages on the “Firebird” series of verification platforms to carry out technical verification. While ensuring the test and commercial launch of “智神星一号 PALLAS ONE Reusable Carrier Rocket “, the research and verification of recovery technology will be steadily promoted.

“智神星一号 PALLAS ONE Reusable Carrier Rocket” is a medium-to-large reusable liquid launch vehicle independently developed by星河动力 Galactic Energy – Galaxy Power….. It is mainly aimed at the market demand for large-scale constellation networking. It can provide a low-orbit transport capacity of no less than 5 tons. The extended bundled low-orbit transport capacity can reach 14 tons. The number of reuses is designed to be 50 times.

“智神星一号 PALLAS ONE Reusable Carrier Rocket ” is the first commercial launch vehicle in China that adopts a circular parallel recovery configuration of 7 engines. It adopts a center, 6 evenly distributed circumferentially, and a full two-way swing scheme, combined with the company’s self-developed CQ-50 liquid oxygen kerosene engine. The depth variable thrust capability (35%~110%) not only meets the requirements of vertical recovery and reuse, but also has power redundancy capabilities, that is, the other 6 engines can ensure normal flight into orbit in the event of any engine failure.

In this test, the “Firebird-1” verification platform was in a stable state during the flight, and all indicators met the design requirements, achieving a good technical assessment and verification effect. In the future, Galaxy Dynamics Aerospace will, on this basis, promote a series of key technology verification work including the recovery trajectory online planning algorithm as planned, accelerate the evolution of related technologies, and accelerate the development of reusable launch vehicles.

The auxiliary power system of智神星一号 PALLAS ONE Reusable Carrier Rocket can provide force for the roll control of the active stage of the rocket flight, the three-channel attitude control of the taxiing section, the sinking of the propellant in the taxiing section, and the correction of the rocket’s terminal velocity. This test run has comprehensively examined the coordination of the components of the auxiliary power system and the correctness of the design scheme. The total system test run lasted for 1800s, and each attitude control engine had a cumulative pulse operation of more than 600 times, the shortest pulse was 30ms, and the single working time of the sinking engine was longer than 600s. The test procedure covers all flight conditions of the智神星一号 PALLAS ONE Reusable Carrier Rocket.

During the test run, 14 engines worked normally throughout the whole process, and the engine performance met the design index requirements. 智神星一号 PALLAS ONE Reusable Carrier Rocket auxiliary power system is independently developed by Galactic  Energy Galaxy Power Aerospace. The system consists of 62L metal diaphragm storage tank, 25L carbon fibre gas cylinder, 300N attitude control engine, 50N attitude control engine, pipeline valves and other components. The auxiliary power system has the advantages of light structure, compact layout, rapid response to pulse work, stable and reliable long-distance work, etc. Follow-up will also carry out vibration, separation and other identification environmental tests and reliability growth thermal test run assessment. The complete success of the hot test of the auxiliary power system has laid a solid foundation for the first flight delivery of the智神星一号 PALLAS ONE Reusable Carrier Rocket.
