[The Tianwen-2 probe has successfully moved into the launch area and is scheduled to be launched at an appropriate time at the end of May]
According to the National Space Administration, on May 18, the Tianwen-2 probe of the planetary exploration project successfully moved into the launch area after completing the general assembly, testing, and refuelling in the technical area at the Xichang Satellite Launch Center as planned. Subsequently, various functional inspections, joint tests, and other work will be carried out as planned, and the launch is scheduled to be carried out at an appropriate time at the end of May. The Tianwen-2 mission will carry out multiple tasks in a single launch, including accompanying the asteroid 2016HO3, sampling, and return, and accompanying the main-belt comet 311P.
System composition Overall Design
The Tianwen-2 probe consists of a main probe and a return capsule. The main power supply system of the main probe is a uniquely constructed circular flexible solar wing that resembles a large umbrella. Researchers chose this special configuration of “protective umbrella” to reduce the risk of traditional solar wings touching the ground during the probe’s soft landing. Tianwen-2 adopts a double-wing structure, with a single wing area of 17 square meters. One of the reasons why it carries such a large solar wing is that the mission goal is ambitious. After Tianwen-2 completes the asteroid sampling and return mission, the main probe is likely to continue to fly into deep space. During this process, the amount of sunlight obtained will become less and less, so the solar wing needs to be specially enlarged.
Solar panels are truly “protective umbrellas” that continuously convert solar energy into electricity for continuous use by spacecraft during deep space exploration. As we all know, a large amount of uninterrupted solar energy diffuses in the space environment, just like WiFi wireless chargers, which are most popular with spacecraft. Since a single solar cell generally cannot meet the demand, a power generation device composed of solar cells and related structures connected in series or parallel is a solar cell array, which is like a “nutritionist” for spacecraft, constantly “cooking” solar energy into a “nutritional meal” that can be directly absorbed by various devices
Prior to this, the Long March 3B Yao-110 carrier rocket that carried out the Tianwen-2 launch mission successfully moved from the technical area to the launch area on May 14, and completed the hoisting, docking, and other work.

At 12:12 on May 17, 2025, Beijing time, the improved version of the Suzaku-2 Y2 carrier rocket was launched from the Dongfeng Commercial Space Innovation Test Area, successfully sending six satellites of the Changsha Tianyi Space Science and Technology Research Institute, namely, Tianyi 29, Tianyi 34, Tianyi 35, Tianyi 42, Tianyi 45 and Tianyi 46, into the planned orbit. The flight test mission was a complete success. This mission is the fifth flight of the Suzaku-2 carrier rocket
[Video of the transfer of the ZQ-2E Y2 launch vehicle]
The improved ZQ-2 is China’s first dual cryogenic liquid launch vehicle that uses full supercooling and refuelling. It integrates core innovations such as a high-thrust liquid oxygen-methane power system, titanium-niobium alloy high-thrust nozzle manufacturing technology, and a single-layer common bottom tank structure. It can eventually achieve a 4-ton carrying capacity for a 500-kilometer sun-synchronous orbit. It is oriented towards low-orbit and sun-synchronous orbit missions and is gradually growing into a core platform serving the main market of China’s commercial aerospace.
The Y2 rocket as a whole continues the mature structure and control strategy of Y1. In this mission, it is equipped with a composite fairing with a diameter of 4.2 meters and a total length of 8.7 meters for the first time, which significantly enhances the compatibility with multiple types and sizes of payloads, and further improves the mission adaptability of the entire rocket.
The rocket adopts a two-stage configuration. The first stage is equipped with four Tianque 12A (TQ-12A) liquid oxygen-methane engines in parallel. Each engine has a sea level thrust of 720 kN, providing strong thrust and attitude control capabilities. The second stage uses the Tianque 15A (TQ-15A) with a vacuum thrust of 836 kN, 60% throttling conditions and three start-up capabilities. In conjunction with the Yunque (YQ-10) auxiliary power system, it supports thrust regulation, trajectory control, terminal speed correction and other precision operations to meet the needs of highly complex missions.
Based on continuous optimization, the Yao-2 rocket has been upgraded in many key aspects compared to the first flight model, including: engine thrust increase, cancellation of the first-stage oxygen exhaust connector to simplify the process, and upgrading the fairing from metal to composite materials, which significantly improved the mission response efficiency and system stability…
On the day of 14TH May 2025 Hours Hong- Kong SAR – Beijing time CNSA –China National Space Administration , China, People’s Republic of China At 1212 Hong Kong SAR- Beijing Time , the Chang Zheng -Long March 2D the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center using the Long March 2D carrier rocket. This launch is the 103rd space launch in the world in 2025, the 27th in China, the 3rd this month, the 9th for SAST, and the 4th for the Long March 2D.
The space computing satellite constellation is provided with launch services by China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation Commercial Rocket Co., Ltd. as the general contractor. The Long March 2D rocket is developed and manufactured by the Eighth Academy of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation.
The space computing satellite constellation is the first constellation of the “Star Computing” plan. It consists of 12 satellites developed by Guoxing Aerospace Corporation and carries the core key payload developed by Zhijiang Laboratory according to the “Three-Body Computing Constellation” standard.
The Space Computing Constellation 021 mission is the first constellation of the “Star Computing” plan initiated by Guoxing Aerospace, and it is also the first constellation of the “Three-Body Computing Constellation” of Zhijiang Laboratory. The constellation is invested by different entities and consists of 12 computing satellites in one orbit developed by Guoxing Aerospace. The
12 computing satellites of the first constellation use the intelligent networked satellite platform developed by Guoxing Aerospace. In addition to the AI payload developed by Guoxing Aerospace, it also carries Zhijiang Laboratory’s onboard intelligent computers and other space computing software and hardware and space-based models, realizing “computing power to the sky, networking on orbit, and models to the sky”.
Each satellite has an onboard intelligent computing system and an inter-satellite communication system, which can realize the interconnection of satellites in the entire orbit and have space on-orbit computing capabilities.
The highest computing power of a single satellite is 744TOPS, and the first constellation has a space computing power of 5POPS. The maximum inter-satellite laser communication rate can reach 100Gbps. After the constellation is networked, it will form the world’s strongest space computing power. The satellite is also equipped with a space-based model with 8 billion parameters, which will perform on-orbit tasks such as astronomical science observations.
In addition to space computing and space interconnection capabilities, the first constellation satellite is also equipped with a ground remote sensing payload. With the help of on-board computing capabilities, it will explore the real-time on-orbit processing of verification data, improve data processing efficiency by reducing data transmission costs and time delays, and provide satellite three-dimensional digital twin data and application services for industries such as emergency safety, low-altitude economy, and gaming and cultural tourism through the satellite spiritual engine.
It is worth mentioning that the satellite launched this time also carries a cosmic X-ray polarization detector developed by Guangxi University and the National Astronomical Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. It will use the space-based astronomical time domain model to quickly detect, identify and classify various transient sources such as gamma-ray bursts on orbit, and trigger dual-satellite collaborative observations to achieve second-level judgment and 99% recognition accuracy, and promote the paradigm change of space science research with “artificial intelligence +
This mission is the 576th launch of the Long March series of carrier rockets.
