Wenchang, Hainan Province, China, People’s Republic of China At 16:52 Beijing Time this afternoon, the Long March 8A Y10 carrier rocket was launched from Launch Complex 1 at the Hainan Commercial Space Launch Site.
The Long March 8A Y10 carrier rocket will be launched from the Hainan Commercial Space Launch Site this afternoon (August 4) to carry out a satellite internet low-orbit networking mission. This will be the 10th flight of this type of rocket.
I. Key Information of Today’s Launch Mission
- Launch time and location : Afternoon of August 4th, Launch Pad 1 of Hainan Commercial Space Launch Site114
- Mission objective : To carry out a low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellite internet network deployment mission, sending multiple networking satellites into their designated orbits.
- Mission significance : This is the 10th flight of the Long March 8A rocket and the first launch of August from the Hainan Commercial Space Launch Site.1
II. Continuous Improvement and Upgrading of Rockets
- The Y9 mission achieved its first upgrade to its second-stage engine on July 5th, increasing its payload capacity by nearly 1 ton. Both the number of satellites carried and the total weight into orbit set new records for the mission.
- Key improvements for the Long March 8A rocket during the Y10 launch: Building upon the Y9 launch, further improvements and upgrades will be made to the measurement and control systems, marking the completion of the Long March 8A rocket’s comprehensive transformation and upgrade.
- Key technology verification : Y9 successfully verified several technologies, including long-duration coasting shallow box start-up of the final stage, the new configuration of the YF-75DB engine, and on-orbit thermal environment adaptability design
III. Hainan Commercial Space Launch Site Capabilities Leap Forward
- Dual-station parallel testing : The Long March 8 series has established a second set of vertical test stations, realizing a new mode of parallel testing of two rockets.
- Launch testing efficiency has been significantly improved : the launch site vertical measurement area process has been shortened from 17 days to 9 days, and further optimization will be carried out in the future, increasing the annual launch testing capacity to the level of 30 launches.
- Launch frequency increased : The new vertical tracking platform is ready for use and can support an annual launch volume increase from 10 to 20 or even higher.
