Cheng Kwok Wai – Senior Project Architect – ARBUK explains At To Kwa Wan Station, we’ve invited Momo (Leung Mee-Ping) A veteran Artist, to create an artwork on the theme of Home.  To Kwa Wan is a unique, old community in Hong Kong SAR, when we built this station we hope to characterise this station with art… The Artist came up with the idea of gathering objects from the community …   Andrew Mead – Chief Architect ARBUK Community art is at the forefront of the art programme, Momo is a really interesting and talent artist with a lot of experience working with the community We came up this idea of inviting the community to come into workshops. With a meaningfully objects. And to get to write about it, what its meaning is, in their own handwriting. And the Magical of Momo is that  she collected all these memorabilia and these writings and created this series of rooms of memories and I think this is a really fantastic way of connecting the community an creating a truly unique artwork.

Vitus Yiu- Artwork Fabricator When we received the design, we deliberated on the colour tones to make the images more realistic, these pictures feel Nostalgic then we prepared the glass.. First, we temper the glass, then it goes through a heat soak and then, the glass is coated before a digital printing after laminated, these are procedures…. For the elderly as well as young people in the community this set of artworks can bring back beautiful memories, and bear witness to stores of the past.

宋皇臺站藝術品《大地陶詞》製作過程 The making-of the artwork “Earth Song” at Sung Wong Toi Station

Andrew Mead – Chief Architect ARBUK Artist Fiona Wong presents a modern interpretation of the aesthetics of the Song Dynasty, recreating paintings from the time with ceramic sculptures, illustrating the stunning beauty of the ever-changing seasons and times. We found tremendous numbers of ceramics from the Song Dynasty and so when we came to select the artist, I think it’s important to have an artist that will resonate that, and Fiona is an amazing ceramic artist. She’s done a lot of work has been displayed in many galleries all around the world, Small little pieces that also reflect Chinese Heritages and culture.. And I think it’s a great opportunity for us to give a commission,  and showcase what a talent artist she is, and also create a ceramic artwork in a location where ceramic obviously is very much part of the site… Cheng Kwok Wai – Senior Project Architect –. Fiona veteran ceramic artist who resonates well with this location with its excavated ceramic shards and archaeological finds, Her artwork is inspired by the Song Dynasty artworks, she also reference Song Dynasty Aesthetic ideas for her artworks encased in four pillars Each of the ceramic works is shield behind glass. After getting off from the Trains passengers can appreciate the works from up close. Another par tis located in the corridors Fiona designed as set of stickers which document the who creative process it gives the passengers an insight to her creative journey.  Stephanie Cheung – Art Curator – what exactly is found through archaeology?  Once, Fiona was at the warehouse where the findings were kept, She Carefully picked up a fragment, and said “Look at this foot ring” it is telling of the perfection the craftsmen strived for even at the tiny bottom of a bowl, Over the last five years, Fiona has made countless revisions she’s pays tribute to Song aesthetics with contemporary art, ceramics are fragile but through the process of firing they transform into something that could last forever…

紅磡站藝術品《失而復得》製作過程 The making-of the artwork “Lost and Found” at Hung Hom Station

“Lost and Found” is a multi-part artwork created by artist Lam Laam (Jaffa) with sculptures and printing on glass panels located across the station, discovering another meaning of loss and an imaginative journey at Hung Hom Station…..

Andrew Mead – Chief Architect ARBUK Jaffa is sculptor, we created a series of sculptures based on luggage which actually double up as seats so it has a useful duo-purpose they are both works of art and seats, the luggage series is inspired by the fact that is a very import interchange station both within Hong Kong SAR but also in its connection to the mainland as well. The whole inspiration of the works was actually base on our lost and found office which is actually located at Hong Kong Admiralty station.  And the Artist has created this series of small sculptures that’ sits on the floor on the basis of people might have lost or dropped an umbrella or a glove or a handkerchief and things like that. And so really a quite whimsical piece in that sense…. Cheng Kwok Wai – Senior Project Architect – At the spot where passengers go down to the platform the artist turned patterns of nylon bags widely used in the old days, into prints on the glass barriers . On the Platforms, there are stone sculptures of different sizes.  They’re shaped like luggage bags across time Viewers can see how luggage bags changed the artist worked with old craftsmen and used techniques that are at the verge of disappearances.   These small sculptures are made of recycled aluminium. The Small objects will be installed in the station when passengers discover them, they might realise that they might have lost something similar too.. These artworks gives character to the Hun Hom Station, they enrich passenger journeys… Stephanie Cheung – Art Curator – This Station has witnessed many significant changes. Passengers lost all sorts of things here.  The artist hopes that we will not get lost,  and all that was once lost can be eventually be recovered…

土瓜灣站藝術品《家》Artwork “Home” at To Kwa Wan Station

Artist Ms Leung Mee-ping creates a conceptual framework, filled out by more than 100 To Kwa Wan residents who shared personal items and memories for every commuter to experience. In collaboration with local organisations the artist held workshops to collect homely objects from local residents, and invited them to share their stories…. Pictures and Stories of the Objects were gathered through a series of workshops.  There are two kind of old objects, some are gifts, some are taken from others when are longer needed. Both carry social and personal meanings, how they were used, their scratches broken parts some objects are in good shape; they are discarded because the users change their taste. These old objects signify collective memories and personal meanings that are absent in newly bought objects. This is why I am fascinated with old objects. These old objects inspired my imagination.  The title of this work is “Home” Household items were collected from local residents.  Photographs of these objects are composed to become a series of images, they’re printed onto the walls in the MTR station like of museum of images

宋皇臺站藝術品《大地陶詞》Artwork “Earth Song” at Sung Wong Toi Station

Artist Fiona Wong presents a modern interpretation of the aesthetics of the Song Dynasty, recreating paintings from the time with ceramic sculptures, illustrating the stunning beauty of the ever-changing seasons. It means a lot to represent the aesthetics of the Song Dynasty at this particular station right here at this location, a few dozen metres underground an ancient, Song Dynasty town was excavated….. Originally I wished to integrate the archaeological finds in my work, Eventually, all factors considered I distilled the Spirit of these artefacts as my inspiration for a brand new contemporary piece. The final work will be located at the platform on four pillars, the work comprises two sets One set is about day and night another is about spring and winter the four works are all based on Song Dynasty paintings including “ Studies of the Properties of Water” By Ma Yuan “ Traveller Among Mountains and Stream” By Fan Kuan These significant Chinese paintings inspired the work. It depicts the passage of time, the contrast between day and night between the seasons   the vitality in spring versus the solitude of a snowy winter. I hope the piece can represent the aesthetics of the Song Dynasty and offer busy passengers an aesthetic experience and reconnect them with history
